  • Capitol Federal Park at Sandstone (formerly Sandstone Amphitheater) has a variety of concerts during the summer. Located in Kansas, 3 miles west of I-435 on I-70.
  • City Market. Head to the Kansas City (Missouri) City Market in the River Market area. Weekends and Wednesdays. Please see their web site for the schedule and directions.
  • Support the environment. Visit the Kansas City Earth Day home page for tips and a calendar of Earth Day events in the metro KC area.
  • Kansas City Museum's exhibits feature artifacts and audio/visual shows about the region from the time of the Osage Indians to the opening of the Hannibal Bridge in 1869. Separate admission fees for museum, Planetarium, and Challenger Learning Center.
  • The Kansas City Symphony offers classical, pops, and family concert series.
  • Kansas City Zoo. Be warned that our zoo is very large. Plan on spending a full day and doing a *lot* of walking. When they offer a ride to another section, there's a reason.
  • The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts offers a variety of events.
  • The Lee's Summit Symphony performs 5 concerts a year.

  • Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Located near Country Club Plaza, the museum is known for it's collection of Asian art, especially the arts of China. Admission is free on Saturdays.
  • Starlight Theater is an outdoor theater presenting concerts and Broadway-style musicals during the summer. Near the Kansas City Zoo.
  • Sierra Club. Whether your interest is outdoor excursions or the environment, the Thomas Hart Benton Group of the Missouri Ozark Chapter or the Kansas Chapter of the Sierra Club may interest you.
  • Toy and Miniature Museum of Kansas City. Located on the campus of the University of Missouri, Kansas City.
  • Union Station and Science City. Union Station was an important link in cross-continental travel during the glory days of rail traffic. Now it is the home of Science City. Exhibits and activities for the entire family.
  • Worlds of Fun amusement park. The MAMBA roller coaster is one of the largest and fastest in the world.

    From Kansas City International airport, take I-29 south to 45 Hwy./64th St. Exit. Go right (west) on 45 Hwy. to Hwy. 9. Go left (south) to 2nd Street and turn right. Go one block to Main St.
    From Kansas, take I-35 north to 635 north. Take the 9 Hwy. north exit (it's a left lane exit) to Parkville. After you pass Park College, Hwy. 9 takes a sharp right. Immediately after the sharp right, turn left on 2nd St. Go one block to Main St.
  • Prairie Point, 7341 Quivira Rd., Shawnee, Ks 66216, (913) 268-3333 or toll free (888) 268-5606. Located at north end of shopping center on the northeast corner of 75th and Quivira. 2 miles west of I-35 and 75th Street. Ten minutes north of Oak Park Mall.
  • Quilter's Haven, 116 N. Clairborne Rd. #B, Olathe, KS 66062, (913) 764-8600. Located 1 block east of I-35 at the Santa Fe exit (exit 218).
  • Quilter's Station, 3680 NE Akin Drive, Lee's Summit, MO 64063, (816) 525-8955 or toll free (866) 649-8024. Take I-470/291 Highway to Woods Chapel Rd. West on Woods Chapel Rd. to Ralph Powell Rd. Left (south) on Ralph Powell Rd. Quilt shop is on the right, just past the Sonic Drive-In.
  • Rustic Yearnings, 4621 S. Shrank Drive, Independence, MO 64055, (816) 373-2423. From I-70: Take Lee's Summit Rd. exit, go south to 40 Hwy., turn left to Shrank (1st stoplight), turn left on Shrank, then right into the Apple Tree Center. From 291/470: Go to Hwy. 40 exit, go west 1 mile to Shrank, turn right on Shrank, turn right to Apple Tree Center. The quilt shop faces 40 Hwy. with a Quilt Shop sign over the doors.
